DIRECTOR OF CITIES – RIYADH KSA
We are currently looking for an Associate Director to join BuroHappold to be based in Saudi Arabia who will lead the firm’s “Cities” offer – an integrated consulting and engineering offer in the Saudi market.
BuroHappold, is an internationally renowned engineering and consulting practice. Our Consulting arm offers leading strategic and management consultancy in the built environment. We work with public and private sector clients to develop integrated solutions to complex problems bringing together to a project the traditional skills of a management consultancy with those of an engineering, planning and design consultancy. Our engineering provides building and infrastructure expertise with the latter very much focused on project masterplanning and supporting the consultancy offer.
The candidates must be Degree BEng/BSc or Masters MEng/MSc qualified or equivalent with 15 + years’ experience in a similar position. You must also be Professionally Qualified in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning or other relevant area.

This role is a focal point of our regional representation in the Middle East across a diverse portfolio of work stretching from Strategic Planning, Environment and Transportation, Infrastructure and water Engineering, Economic Development, Programme and Development Management, Organisational Development and. This vacancy has arisen through the formation of a unified “Cities” team focusing on delivering integrated solutions to public and private sector clients. The growth and development of this role will be achieved through:
1. Dynamic and determined commitment to develop our projects and clients organisations by stretching boundaries and breaking new ground.
2. High quality leadership, developing or sustaining a portfolio of key client relationships.
3. Maintaining the highest standards of technical quality; contributing to the development of brand through innovation & creativity.
4. Maintaining and building team capability to run integrated, high profile projects across the Saudi and potentially other Middle East markets.
Responsibilities
• Be able to represent the BuroHappold consulting and planning service offers and be able to look at and develop bespoke offers that fit the changing environment
• Strategy Formulation and Implementation
• Contribution to the design and development of the BuroHappold work winning strategy in Saudi Arabia and across the wider Middle East.
o Important contribution to achieving the work winning targets and budgeted revenues for the BuroHappold Middle East Business Unit through the integration of Business Development and Marketing activities.
• Maintaining an accurate picture of current and future market trends in order to establish and continuously improve our offering across the market.
• Championing and delivering the potential of collaborative, integrated, working.
Development of continuous knowledge sharing relationships with other offices; ensuring best practice is shared across the BuroHappold Business to ensure all gain collectively from own efforts.
Business Development
• Supporting the leadership team in the development of strategy and business development plan to deliver a £3m revenue business for 2014/15.
• Leading on the delivery of £3.0m revenue from projects led by BuroHappold Saudi Cities team and supporting the delivery of a further £5.0m delivered by other BuroHappold groups within the Middle East region.

Technical Delivery
• Main project lead for some projects taking ownership of the financial and technical success of the projects whilst strengthening the client relationships and repeat business opportunities.
• Maintain a support role on projects led by other team members within the region and outside the Middle East region.
• Supporting the delivery of a risk managed portfolio; working within agreed financial parameters.
• Developing tailored consulting and technical solutions; ensuring the delivery of exceptional cradle to grave support to clients, delivering an approach that adapts to their understanding, experience and needs. Manage the commissioning and input of a diverse range of sub- consultants as required.
Group Development
• ‘Thought Leader’ in own area; developing technical and commercial reputation of BuroHappold. Helping to develop & mentor individuals within the ME Cities team to become future work winners and technical experts.
• Communicate work winning activity to the business unit; encouraging an agile and adaptable approach to maximise broader revenue presented by clients.
Team Leadership
• Support to the Heads of all BuroHappold Services for the strategic assessment and rebalancing of the team’s strengths and needs over the long term in order to deliver a well- functioning, harmonious team.
• Support the review, renewal, recruitment and development of the Middle East based Cities team; ensuring that existing talent is inspired and motivated and that talent acquisition strategy is aligned to the sustainable growth of the business.
Essential Experience
• Substantial relevant work experience consulting on urban issues across engineering and strategic planning, programme management, development management and potentially economic development
• The individual should be an expert in either planning, economic development, infrastructure, transport, water or environment with the ability to represent other disciplines in this list.
• Proven Experience of working with internationally based public sector clients on sizeable consulting projects.
• Track record of having contributed to the development of networks in the Middle East Region or elsewhere that will generate sustainable client / collaborator relationships and on- going return on investment.
• Experienced project leader with track record of 15+ year of exceptional delivery over a sustained period within the industry.
• Evidence of having undertaken a similar role in other leading organisations
Desirable Experience
• Experience of a mix of consultancy for both the public and private sector will be preferable.
• Experience of undertaking this type of work in an international environment will be important.
• Worked internationally in a recognised, internationally focused organisation.
• Experience of project management and work-winning roles in a Middle East environment would be preferable.
